Scott Montgomery

Prof. Montgomery was born in Scotland in 1961 and works as a clinical epidemiologist with a joint appointment at Örebro University Hospital and Karolinska Institutet. His main role is to encourage research, including though his own projects. Montgomery’s research is concerned principally with how early-life exposures influence development and disease risk, particularly immune-mediated diseases (such as inflammatory bowel disease and multiple sclerosis), as well as other conditions including diabetes (type 1 & 2) and obesity.

Current research is investigating: whether maternal infectious history influences cytokine expression in offspring; initial bowel colonisation patterns and Crohn’s disease risk; multiple sclerosis aetiology and complications; and investigation of childhood exposures influencing both early development and the risk of subsequent adult-onset obesity and type 2 diabetes.  Research into the causes and consequences of the disappointment paradox continues using Swedish register-based material.

Researchers (or potential researchers) and clinicians at USÖ who would like to discuss their research ideas or problems are encouraged to get in touch.
